A sporting vision absent in Marseille ?

Hello !

Welcome to this 7th football post. For better visibility, I advise you to look at my posts on a computer (for the size but also because the colors differ on a phone that has a dark theme like me. If the theme is light, only the size makes it difficult to read).

Today, a dataviz on the sporting vision of several teams in Ligue 1.
I had this idea because as a Marseille supporter, I wondered about the treatment of Vitinha, the most expensive recruit in the club's history.
Indeed, he arrived during the season (winter transfer window) in a squad which lacked a central striker even if Alexis Sanchez did a remarkable job in this position. However, it was not the latter's preferred position, and he had on several occasions mentioned his wish to play a little lower on the pitch. Recruiting a central striker was therefore an idea that seemed consistent with the current squad and the wishes of Alexis Sanchez. However, Vitinha almost never had the opportunity to have regular playing time, starting very few matches.

It is essential for a young player, especially in Marseille where the pressure is great. His first steps were difficult (not surprising for several reasons, young age, first experience outside Portuga (his country of birth), atypical start to his career because his third "real" professional season at the age of 23, which is a little late compared to the usual standard, very difficult central striker position in Marseille, and finally...the most expensive recruit in the club's history). It was an immense challenge that awaited Vitinha, and the least we can say is that he was not put in very good conditions, far from it. And to see it, you just have to compare with other clubs in the championship aiming for a qualifying place for a European Cup (Rennes, Lens, Lille, Nice...) who have also chosen to bet on a young player to good potential rather than an experienced player.

In today's graph, we will see that the other teams have given much more continuity of playing time to their young recruits. This favored their progress and consequently the increase in their value. In each example, I took at most the first year of playing in the club for better visibility and quality of comparison.

We quickly realize that Vitinha has only played (at least) 2 matches, twice since his arrival which was almost a year ago. This is extremely little.
Moffi, who was also once announced for Marseille at the time of the purchase of Vitinha, was on the contrary able to have a lot of playing time and play a series of matches. This is in particular one of the reasons which can explain its very good quality statistics (goals and assists). The observation is essentially identical for the two other examples.

I find this very deplorable because even if we can clearly see that Vitinha is not the most gifted young person of his generation...and that he was probably bought too expensively, he has still demonstrated step by step that he was capable of doing good things. But if it continues like this, he will be one more player not able to express himself in Marseille (another one...).
