Marseille, a workforce victim of too much renewal ?

Marseille, a workforce victim of too much renewal ?

Hello !

Welcome to this 9th football post. For better visibility, I advise you to look at my posts on a computer (for the size but also because the colors differ on a phone that has a dark theme like me. If the theme is light, only the size makes it difficult to read).

Today, a dataviz on the analysis of the Marseille squad. An analysis on various points of view : the contractual aspect, the age and values of the players.
We saw in another dataviz through the treatment of the recruit Vitinha that the sporting vision of the club was improveable. Today's will probably go in the same direction.

Indeed, since the arrival of Pablo Longoria at the club (around 4 years ago), the transfer windows have been synonymous with numerous movements (arrivals and departures) for the club, including at the level of the coaching position.
Although the club is renowned for being unstable (so beyond the Pablo Longoria period), this seems to have intensified greatly since his arrival.
The sports newspaper L'Equipe mentions the number of 171 movements (it seems to me that the number is false according to what I have read, without the exact number being very far off).

The interest of the dataviz today is to try to show that despite the club having obtained good results since his arrival at the club and his sporting choices concerning the management of the squad (5th, 2nd, 3rd), the last transfer window was probably one too many in this state of mind of permanent upheaval of the workforce.
The best clubs in the world do not shake up their squad every summer. It was very likely that at some point Marseille would no longer be able to achieve good results with this method, because no one can do it.

Note that players currently on loan to other clubs (but therefore having a contract with Marseille) do not appear on the graph.
It seems quite striking to me to see that a very large majority of players have been there for a year and a half or less.
In addition, those who have been there for longer than that are rather young players apart from Rongier and Lopez.
In other words, who in the workforce knowing the special Marseille context in France can play this leadership role ? Only 2 players ? And how could players who have only been playing together for a short time build something of quality ?
With a coach who changes regularly, and therefore his style of play too ?

In terms of valuing the squad, which is difficult because of what was mentioned earlier, we can also see that many players have their contracts ending in June 2025, i.e. one year from the end of the current season. Which is in the world of football a situation in general which has two solutions : the extension of the player's contract or his sale (because otherwise in one year, he will leave as a "free agent", that is to say that the club will not receive no money for his departure, but a club seeks to avoid this).
So in summary, the club could lose several more players (five) and perhaps already two as "free agents", plus those currently on loan until the end of the season.

So half of the squad still needs to be changed, in the worst case (not so improbable). When will there be a real sports project in Marseille ?
